Don't waste it
She'd never meant for this to happen.
It had been an accident. She had been fetching water when a boy had come up behind her to surprise her. It was just supposed to be a joke, make her drop the water bucket. Everyone knew she had a temper. He'd thought that it would be a laugh to get her to snap. Maybe chase him around the village trying to hit him with the bucket.
Instead he surprised her so much that she accidentally sent a shock through his body so bad that he collapsed, unconcious and in serious danger.
Frightened, Arlene had run away. It didn't take long for word to spread though. Later that same day, a mob tracked her down and chased her from the village, calling her a witch.
She knew if they caught her, they would burn her. She ran to the forrest, scared and angry, betrayed by everyone she had ever known.
Someone had been watching though. And just as Arlene's anger started to grow stronger than her fear, the Enchantress appeared before her.
"Arlene. Allowing your anger to take over you will not help you. It will only lead to your end."
Of course, Arlene had no idea who this person was, and clearly they were not what they seemed. The woman was powerful. That was obvious.
She shrank back, frightened once more.
"W-who are you? What do you want from me? And how do you know me?!"
The woman was unphased by Arlene's shouting. She just stepped closer and spoke calmly.
"I am someone who can help you, if you let me. The villagers are not far away. Come with me and I will teach you to control your powers so you never lose control again. Then you can start over in a new town where no one knows you."
Arlene hesitated. She had to admit she was tempted. Then again, that would mean never seeing anyone from home ever again. Her friends, her family...
...But they had betrayed her. They would kill her if she ever went back.
She didn't have any other choice.
"....Alright, fine. It's not like I have a choice."
The Enchantress took Arlene away somewhere safe. She helped her learn to control her powers, and taught her the proper way to use them.
But she also sensed Arlene's anger growing. The wounds inflicted on her Heart never healed. In fact they seemed to grow darker every day, and she feared that one day Arlene would lose the control she worked so hard to obtain and hurt someone.
She was wrong. Arlene never lost control. Enchantress had trained her well. When Arlene went back the the village where she had been born, she was in complete control.
She knew, the pain wouldn't stop until the people who had hurt her were gone. She would never stop being afraid until she was sure they would never come after her again.
She returned for the one purpose of eliminating the people who had wronged her.
She may have changed some in the years she'd been away, but some of the people still recognized her. In particular, the boy who she'd injured by accident, now a young man, who also, coincidentally, was the first person she ran into.
"A-A-Arlene? W-what are you doing here?!"
"What's the matter? Not happy to see me? That's no way to treat an old friend..If memory serves, half the village was looking for me a couple of years back, because you told them I was a witch!"
He backed away, frightened.
"You shocked me! You created lightning from your body! That makes you a witch! N-now you should leave, before the town finds out you're here!"
He wasn't doing a good job of hiding his fear, and he knew it. Arlene just smirked.
"Sily boy. I'm not a witch. I'm worse.."
She charged forward with astonishing speed and planted her hand on his chest over his heart before letting loose a bolt of electricity from her hand. It shot straight through his torso, creating a large exit wound on his back.
He dropped, wounded even worse than last time, and Arlene just laughed.
She tracked down everyone who had been a part of the mob that had chased her out of her home. She found her friends and family who had disowned her. She showed mercy to no one.
But it wasn't enough. The pain didn't go away. And the fear just grew with each person she attacked. She couldn't stop. She would wipe out the entire village if that's what it took!
She cornered another person, a blacksmith. The tools he'd been making scattered as he was thrown back, knocking over his desk.
Arlene just strolled forward, looking almost bored.
"What's the matter? Can't touch me? Don't feel bad, no one can."
Anyone who got close to her she shocked violently. She had created an electric field around her body, keeping anyone from touching her without harm. The Blacksmith had attempted to kill her with a handful of knives, some of which now lay at her feet. Perhaps the pain would go away if she actually killed them.
She aimed her hand at the knives, electricity darting down to the ground around the knives. She used her powers to draw the metal into the air where she could reach it, and with an easy flick of the wrist, tossed one of them at him, where it imbedded itself in his shoulder. She laughed over the sound of his scream.
"Would you look at that! It would seem I have a talent for this!"
But then she felt a presence behind her. It was one she was used to. She's spent the last few years with this person after all.
She spun and flung the remaining knives at The Enchantress with a cry of anger. She knew she had come to stop her.
However, the knives didn't make contact. They simply seemed to bounce off an invisible barrier harmlessly.
The Enchantress looked at her adopted daughter sadly. In her Heart, she had known this would happen. But this was the girl she had raised. She had tried to save her. She had to give her at least one more chance.
"Arlene, please. Come home. Hurting these people won't undo the past. You know that."
This just made her even angier and she screamed, letting electricity loose from her body. It burned the ground where it touched and lashed out at everyone nearby. But somehow, didn't make contact. The Enchantress was holding her back it seemed.
Arlene didn't seem to notice.
"Of course I know! Nothing will undo what they did! They were my friends. My family! But they hunted me down and tried to kill me! If I don't get rid of them, I'll live the rest of my life in fear, looking over my shoulder and wondering when they'll find me again. What else do you expect me to do?! I can't forgive them for what they did! My Heart can't take it!"
The Enchantress sighed. She knew that Arlene would not stop her attack. She'd known it from the beginning. She just hadn't wanted to give up on the girl who had become almost like a daughter her her.
In a way, she still couldn't. She couldn't completely destroy her. But still..
"...Very well Arlene. If your Heart can't take the pain...Then I will grant you one last mercy, and remove it."
That was the only warning she got, before Enchantress's magic gripped her, and she felt her Heart rip from her chest, and her Darkness swallowed her.
The Enchantress had to dispatch the Heartless that emerged immediately. The powerful lightning creature had attempted to finish the work that it's Somebody was unable to do, and had to be destroyed. But the Nobody, was born elsewhere. Somewhere no one knew her. To make a new start without emotion or pain.
Larxene was given one last message from her adoptive mother.
"Live your life free from pain, my child. But do not continue to try to cause pain to others. Should you be destroyed in retaliation, your new body will fade, and your old life will be returned. If you do not wish to regain your emotions, try to be kind to those around you. Do not waste your life, Arlene."
